My Misheard Backstreet Boys Lyrics

If you are a non-native English speaker questioning your listening ability after listening to some Backstreet Boys songs, don't worry. They have confused native speakers as well. Even the best singer sometimes doesn't enunciate certain parts.

We've  Got It Going  On

For me, We've Got It Going On is the gold mine of misheard lyrics.

What I thought it was: We've got it goin' on for you.

What it is: We've got it goin' on for years.

The phrase for years was quite an overstatement since they were only together two years when the song was released.  "For days"  would have sounded better. However, in retrospect, the line was oddly prophetic.

What I thought it was: Crazy wall of static

What it is Crazy wildin' static

My misheard version sounds a little more natural, but I still don't get it.  Because it is by an Afrobritish co-writer, I do not understand it.

What I thought it was: Rule this when I get wet.

What it is: I get ruthless when I get wet.

My misheard version fits the tone better. The second one sounds angrier. It must have been how Wicked Witch of the West must have felt when Dorothy dumped water on her.

Is it a coincidence that Brian sings the following lines? Perhaps he didn't always sing clearly,

What I thought it was: And if by chance we should find/That it can't be for you and me Then girl, I've tried.

What it is: And if by chance we should find/That it can be for you and I Then girl, I'll try.

Both make sense in context, but I never knew which one Brian was singing.

Who Should Be On The Masked Singer Next?

With this picture of him as the Russian doll character from Season 5, Nick Carter joked that the Crocodile was back. It made me think of which members I'd like to see next on the show. My picks would definitely Brian and/or AJ. Should they keep the wildcard format they introduced, one of them may be the main competitor and the other as a potential wildcard spoiler. Both could use their sense of humor to their advantage to get non-fans on their sides.  Like with Nick, it would be a chance to promote themselves free from preconceptions and biases.

Fan Bio

I am Margaret Nahmias I was looking for a place to post my Backstreet Boys-related entries for greater exposure.  I tend to be a little more discerning in my criticisms. Expect to see a lot of discussion of the meaning and context of the songs.  They may sound prudish to you, but at least you understand my criteria.

I was part of the original frenzy in the 90/the early 2000s.      I don't even remember how I came to like them. It might have been because they had both   Pop and R &B   sounds that appealed to me more as I got older.   I still my favorite style.  I read and watch everything I could about themI was part of the original frenzy in the 90/the early 2000s.  Even though younger fans prove their relevance, there will always be things that older fans like myself remember. Politics didn't matter at all in those simpler times.  The Pop/R & B mix appealed to me more since I started to like these genres as I got older. I read and watch everything I could about them. The closest I came to seeing them live was watching a TV special while vacationing in Florida in 1998. I bought a shirt but got rid of it after being teased about it. Since there weren't many organized fan events, you had to be lucky to attend one or chase them down to see them.   earliest fan sites looked primitive.  Before social media, American and International fans knew nothing of each other. The only legal way to own the music was to buy physical albums and singles.  I eagerly awaited the release of Millennium  hoping it would include Who Do You Love  after they teased  the song on TV

As an American fan, everything seemed out of sync to me during the debut era.  The only single released simultaneously from Backstreet's Back and the US Debut was As Long As You Love Me. Everybody was added to the US debut later and made the third US single which was a sensible decision.  The US debut was a good combination of the first two international albums, especially for that market. Thanks to Youtube, American fans are beginning to discover songs that were initially only released internationally. I thought "Roll with it" should have been included instead of "If you want it to be good,  girl". The message would have resonated with a lot in their young audience at the time. It even resonates with me now as an adult looking at past and present struggles. It was also the first of their underappreciated inspirational songs that were a nice break from the regular material.

After my tastes changed again in 2001, I stopped listening to them, except for two songs I liked. I bought Brian's solo album because I remembered him. Now I have come back out of curiosity after seeing the 2019 Via del Mar concert.  The fact that they have lasted amazes me.  If the boy stigma did not haunt them, more American music fans and critics would have appreciated their longevity.

Camden BSB Show on 6/21?

Hi, y'all. Newbie here, but are any of you headed to the Camden show this Saturday? I'm going alone, though I had the option of going with my husband, lol. I got my ticket last minute, so I'm in section 102, row BB. Highly considering adding an After Party ticket, and will definitely do so if I have someone to hang with there.

Anyway, if any of you want to meet up at the show for chatting, fangirling, and drinks, let me know! I'll link ya to my Facebook page if I get any hits.

The Backstreet Boys concert on Thursday was amazing. I got a really awesome BSB t-shirt with a tote bag complimentary with my reserved tour package ticket. My seat was in the second row which was already really close to the catwalk, but I got to sit in the front row because a girl in front of me only came to see Avril Lavigne, so after Avril finished performing and BSB came out, the girl told me she was leaving and I could have her seat. I was so close, I got so many handshakes and high fives from the boys. Lots of eye contact also, and took great pictures without any zoom. They spent a lot of time on the catwalk. I even got some of Nick's sweat on me, I'm not even exaggerating! LOL. It was a magical night. And AJ wore a Britney Spears top from her Vegas store during like half of the concert, no joke. I told him at the after party that I really loved his Britney shirt. :) I also met new friends (as always) and had a blast at the after party. I'm still waiting on my after party picture with Kevin, Nick, AJ, and Howie to be posted on their website. Arrrgh. LOL. I got a selfie with AJ at the after party and also got Kevin and Howie's autographs on the back of my concert ticket receipt. It was lots of fun. ♥

I'm actually kind of having post concert depression now. I drank wine last night and watched their greatest hits music videos DVD. Haha. It helped a little. <3

Happy 21st anniversary to the Backstreet Boys!!!

I was about 4 years old when they came out. I literally listened to them for most of my life and I still love them. My all-time favorite BSB song is I Want It That Way.

I can't wait to see them in concert again this summer. I'm going on June 5th. Anyone else going to the second leg of their In A World Like This US tour? I'm hoping to go to the after party again, if the have one, that is. The after parties are SO much fun! &heart;
